As promised, details about painter Bradford Johnson’s show at Claire Carino Contemporary. Opening on Friday, 9/11, and our conversation at the gallery will be on Saturday, 9/19, 4:30-6:30. This work is so luminous. Highly recommend seeing it in person.

In four paintings, richly colored wallpaper patterns line all four sides of each: florals, heraldry, simplified waves of water and fish. At the center of each image is a small full-length figure, turned mostly away from the viewer, in clothing from the late nineteenth or early twentieth centuries. A man walks a country lane; a man with binoculars looks out in the distance; a man sits in a chair while a figure in royal robe and crown stands upright next to him.
